Sunshine Fund Request

​Purpose

As TX APCO has established a Sunshine Fund for the purpose of providing a measure of financial assistance for those professionals in the public safety communications field who meet with a qualifying event of a nature that affects their personal lives or that of their immediate family members.

Nomination

•  The Sunshine Fund shall be used to provide financial support to public safety communications professionals or their immediate family members who face an event that places a significant financial burden upon them.

• Based on the event and the availability of monies in the Sunshine Fund these individuals may qualify for a financial grant to assist them in this situation.

• Any member of the chapter may recommend (nominate) a professional as a recipient for assistance by submitting the recommendation to the Chapter President.

• The recommendation will be considered by the Board of Officers. The recommender will be notified of the decision.  If the circumstances of the nominee fail to meet the criteria, the reasons will be communicated.

Criteria

To qualify for consideration, the nominee must meet these minimum requirements.

• Be an individual who meets the eligibility criteria for any level of membership of the Association regardless of actual membership status at the time of the qualifying event.

• Recently experienced a life-changing event, such as, but not limited to:

  • Loss of life of an individual or their spouse or dependent child

  • Critical illness or injury of an individual or spouse or dependent child

  • Loss of primary residence as a result of a fire, storm, or similar disaster

  • Critical illness or injury resulting in a disability of the individual

  • Accident with recoverable injuries of the individual Damage to individual’s primary residence as a result of a fire, storm, or similar

  • Other

• Preference shall be given to current members of the chapter, especially if available funds are limited, but the Board of Officers has discretion to weigh other factors consistent with the intent of the Sunshine Fund in determining eligibility and the appropriate award tier.

Administration

• The Sunshine Fund will be funded primarily by the voluntary contributions of the membership. The Board of Officers may authorize a contribution to the Sunshine Fund from the Chapter’s general fund, if appropriate.

• The Sunshine Fund will be maintained as a separate dedicated account under the control of the Chapter Treasurer.

Award

The Board of Officers shall make a determination on the amount of the support provided based on a review of the circumstances and the available funds.
