
Technical Professional of the Year Award
The Technical Professional of the Year Award is presented to an individual whose contributions are instrumental in both knowledge and application of technical advances for a public safety agency in the field of radio communications and/or information technology.
Eligibility:
Nominees must have been employed in the applicable category by a public safety agency between January 1st and December 31st of the year in which they are being nominated.
Persons submitting a nomination or being nominated must be residents of the United States or its Territories or members of the Texas Chapter of APCO, as contained in APCO Policy Manual Article XIII, Section 13.1.
Nominations for a calendar year will be accepted until January 31st of the following year.
Example: Nominees for 2025 awards will be accepted through January 31, 2026
Qualities:

Knowledgeable of and manages the installation, operation, and maintenance of radio equipment.

Knowledge, maintenance and management of the critical applications that deliver core public safety services.

Application, communication, testing, troubleshooting and reporting of server infrastructure.

Possesses ability to provide information to assist in grant writing.

Prepares and maintains various records of maintenance and operation as required by the FCC including renewal of FCC licensing.

Maintains current experience in state-of-the-art electronic equipment repair.

Plans for infrastructure additions, site expansions, and improvements as necessary to insure coverage, systems reliability, and security.

Develops and presents written and oral recommendations, budgets, and schedules for upgrading existing systems.
